Lucas Oil's Langdon fifth on the grid, but wanting more
Shawn Langdon and his Lucas Oil/Speedco Top Fuel dragster team have successfully qualified for Sunday's eliminations at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway although he says they are still trying to find the right combination for the altitude.
"We made a good run in the night session," Langdon said. "But we haven’t made a good run during the day."
Langdon ended Saturday's qualifying in fifth place with a best lap of 4.042 seconds at 305.36 mph. That top lap took place Friday evening after the sun had dipped behind the front range mountains.
"We've not been able to get the car to leave," Langdon said. "We've had slow 60 foot times and we've been dropping cylinders. Tomorrow we're hoping we can get it fixed, get it right, and make a good run down the track."
Langdon will square off against No. 12 qualifier David Grubnic, who had a best pass of 4.138 seconds at 286.38 mph.
"We've got a rough spot on the ladder," Langdon said. "We've got Grubby and we've got to get around him because he's right behind us in the points. We've just got to get the car running on all eight cylinders and going all the way down the track."
