Troy Baxter Motorsport Readies for Dallas

BAXTER MOTORSPORTS IS READIES FOR WINSTON SERIES

Tallahassee, Fla. -- Troy Baxter says "full speed ahead" for his team's entry in the NHRA Castrol Nationals, next week in Dallas.

The 30-year old real estate investor has been involved in Pro Stock Bike competition for two years previous, on the AMA/Prostar tour, with Doug Kline in the riders seat. Those two years netted two top ten finishes, and enough ground work to be able to come prepared for competition against the sports elite players.

Baxter and Kline parted company at the conclusion of last years season, and after an exhaustive search, he has placed Fred Camarena aboard his flagship ride. Next season, they will be adding a second bike to the team, placing Lloyd Strauss in that bikes seat.

Camarena, 31, from Placentia, Calif., has been racing for ten years, beginning in late night street drags, and working his way though index classes culminating into pro-category rides in Pro Modified and Funnybike.

His original plans after college were to continue his collegiate baseball talents into a big league effort, however after watching Dave Schultz and John Myers one time from the grand stands, he knew he would never be happy until he joined them.

Through his riding career, all of his opponents have commented on his natural riders instincts, including friend Matt Hines, who took one of his first rides aboard Camarena's first "real" drag bike, which was a former Russ Olmstead-ridden Pro Stock entry.

Baxter's newest missile is a Byron Hines-prepared 1999 Suzuki GSXR, built by Trac Dynamics. He took delivery of the bike at the 1999 NHRA Gator Nationals, where Gary Tonglett rode it to a #7 qualifying position when his bike could not be finished in time for the event.

The Baxter-Camarena duo will continue their efforts through all remaining NHRA events which feature the two-wheeled entries. Next season, they will be doing a double-punch at all scheduled events.
