Rolex 24 At Daytona Sports Car Test -- Day 1 of 3 FERRARI 333SP QUICKEST AS ROLEX 24 TESTING OPENS AT DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Ferrari 333SP of Yannick Dalmes, Bob Wollek , Max Papis, Andy Evans and Ron Fellows turned in the quickest time of the Can-Am class as over 50 sports car teams opened a three-day test session in preparation for the Jan. 31-Feb. 1 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Their Ferrari 333SP was clocked at 1:40.470, for an average speed of 127.560 mph around the 3.56 mph road course. 1996 Rolex 24 At Daytona champions Doyle-Risi Racing led by driver Wayne Taylor of Altamonte Springs, Fla., turned in the second quickest time of 1:43.393 seconds, for an average speed of 123.954 mph. Defending Rolex 24 At Daytona champion Dyson Racing turned in the third quickest Can-Am test speed of the day. Their Ford R&S Mk. 3 was clocked at 1:44.959, for an average speed of 122.105 mph. The test continues Saturday. A section of the Oldfield Grandstand is open to fans daily at no charge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with access through DAYTONA USA, "The Ultimate Motorsports Attraction." Guided tours of the Speedway are also available (weather permitting) from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a nominal fee.
