Goodyear, Xtreme at Cedar Lake summary

NEW RICHMOND, Wisc. (June 21, 2004) -- Jimmy Mars captured the two day honors by scoring the most points during the Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series' event at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Mars won one race and finished third in the other as he continued the torrid streak he has been on since the start of the 2004 season.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Xtreme organization and Mars heaped the praise on the tires he used at Cedar Lake.

"Usually, when you have two nights of racing, the track will bolt down, but the track has never done that with these Goodyear Eagles," said Mars. "What a great tire."

The event, the Sixth Annual Masters, featured two nights with a 50-lap feature race. The event drew 73 cars the first night and 67 cars the next. The fields included 40 local teams that took advantage of the Goodyear Driver Assurance Package, which allowed non-touring drivers to compete while incurring a smaller tire bill.

Earl Pearson Jr. posted the quick time both nights. He recorded his best time Saturday with a lap of 13.379 seconds around the 3/8-mile dirt oval.

Mars won the first night's race after starting 18th. In addition to winning the race, he was also the Gemini Car Care Centers Hard Charger Award winner for gaining the most positions during the race.

Brian Birkhofer led the first 39 laps and finished second. Shane Clanton was third, followed by Darren Miller and Brady Smith, who started 10th.

Pearson won the second race of the weekend, taking the lead from Donnie Moran after 19 laps. Moran finished second, Mars was third, Steve Shaver took fourth and Birkhofer capped the top five. The race lasted slightly more than 10 minutes, as there were no caution periods.

Miller gained a dozen spots and finished seventh, winning the Gemini Car Care Center Hard Charger Award.
