ATLANTA-Joey Clanton and the Steve Dale Motorsports team tackled the tough banks at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway and were able to post a respectable twelfth place finish in the Winchester 400 Sunday afternoon.

"We had such a good car in the race. It was unfortunate that we got caught with no place to go while trying to avoid a spinning car," said Clanton, who had nothing but praise for the team. "The wreck damaged the engine air system and then we also picked up some track debris. We got a few laps down, but were able to regain several positions before the checkered flag. The team did a great job all weekend and it was their work that enabled us to get a decent finish."

During practice for the event, the echosource83.com, Zaxby's Resturants Pontiac got into some speedy dry and brushed the wall.

"The incident in practice bent the rearend housing, an axle tube and damaged some of the rear suspension," said Clanton. "We only had a few laps of practice between the time it was fixed and qualifying, which was not enough to prepare for a good qualifying run."

Despite starting eighteenth in the 35 car field, Clanton and the team continually adjusted the car and were able to move up through the field. On lap 185, Clanton took the lead for 11 laps and gained valuable points in the Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year Award.

"This team is really something. In spite of the problems we had over the weekend, they never lost focus," said team manager Rich Bodmer. "We give everything we can every race to win. Yet we are also keeping an eye on the big picture, and that is to secure the Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year Title. With an outstanding effort from everyone on the team, we were able to cut our losses and keep our rookie lead."
