New Egypt, NJ (June 24) -- Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch had the potent one-two punch on Reclamation Night at New Egypt Speedway, sweeping both halves of a Twin 20 Modified program on Saturday. Pauch also picked up the $500 "Reclamation Top Dog" bonus for best overall showing in the two events, bringing his night's winnings to a whopping $3,325.
"It's always nice to win in front of your sponsor," Pauch told the crowd in victory lane, after scoring his fifth and sixth wins of the season, and tying Kenny Brightbill's 20 career victories at the track. The race sponsor, Reclamation Inc. of Kingston, NY, also sponsors Pauch's #1 Modified.
The first 20 saw Pauch and Brightbill threading traffic in a race to the front, before Brightbill was involved in a wreck that sent him to the rear. With Brightbill struggling back, Pauch throttled out front and cruised in for the checker. Mark Bitner put in a fine performance for second, with Bob Drayton third, Keith Hoffman fourth and Gary Butler fifth. In the Modified nightcap, Pauch flew from 10th to stalk a quick-running Rick Grosso Jr., until Grosso's engine expired on lap 15. Pauch took advantage of Grosso's misfortune to score #2 on the night, followed by Brightbill, Hoffman, Drayton and Bitner.
Ringoes, NJ's Ryan Godown pulled off a gutsy slingshot move on the final turn of the Sportsman feature event to post his second straight win. "I didn't think I had anything for him (Larry Archer)," an elated Godown stated. Archer settled for second, with Ron John Koczon, Mickey Kessler and Keith Foster rounding out the top five.
Waterford, NJ's Bill Gerber posted his second Street Stock checker of the season after a spirited duel with four-time winner Billy Bauer. Bauer tried every trick in the book to take the lead but Gerber was up to the challenge. Gerber led Bauer, Ralph Gargiulo, Al Cheney III and Ken Guyer to the flag.
Winners of the OfficeMates 5 of Englewood Cliffs Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature event were Pauch and Grosso (Mods), Godown (Sportsman) and Bauer (Street Stock). Reclamation Inc. provided plenty of giveaways for the fans, as well. This Saturday, July 1, Advantage Financial presents Christmas in July at New Egypt, with Santa Claus bringing big fan giveaways in conjunction with the U.S. Marines' Toys for Tots drive. Bring a toy and get a chance to win one of many valuable prizes, courtesy of Advantage Financial.
