WM: Roseville recap, Hanford preview

WESTERN MIDGETS HEAD TO KINGS SPEEDWAY SATURDAY; SWANSON WINS 30-LAP ROSEVILLE MIDGET FEATURE

The USAC Western Midget Series returns to Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. Saturday and Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Calif. continues to hold a sizeable point lead over runner-up Jerome Rodela of El Monte, Calif.

Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. passed Billy Wease on lap 25 and led the final six laps to win Saturday night's 30-lap USAC Western Midget race (co-sanctioned by BCRA) at the All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. Swanson piloted the Roy McKenney machine to the win over Wease, Davey Hamilton, Alex Schutte and Tony Hunt as Hansen finished sixth. Swanson was also the fastest qualifier. Schutte led the first four laps, Hamilton the next seven and Wease the next 13 before yielding to Swanson.

Hansen won the May 16 race, the last time the USAC Midgets competed at Kings. He led all but three laps of that race after passing lady driver Shannon McQueen on lap four. McQueen will bear watching Saturday as she posted the fastest qualifying time for the May race at the 3/8-mile oval!

Robby Flock, whose 52 career victories rank second all-time to Sleepy Tirpp in the Western series, finished fourth in the May race at Kings and could also be among drivers to watch Saturday.
