AMA PRO RACING CANCELS TWO FLAT TRACK EVENTS

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (May 16, 2005) -- AMA Pro Racing announced today that two rounds of the 2005 AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship have been removed from the schedule. The first event, round six of the 19 Round Championship was originally scheduled to be held on June 24 at Atomic Speedway in Oak Ridge, Tenn., but has been cancelled due to the inability of the event promoter and the new track owners to arrive at a workable agreement.

The cancellation of round 18, scheduled for Sept. 10 at Vernon Downs, is due to a pending change in ownership of the track. That ongoing situation is the same reason the event had to be removed from the 2004 schedule.

Bruce Bober, AMA Pro Racing Flat Track Series Manager, stated the removal of these two events is an unfortunate, but unavoidable situation. "We've dealt with the Vernon Downs ownership problem for over a year now and were hoping that it would get resolved," said Bober. "Regrettably that has not happened yet. Similarly, we were hopeful that the issues between the promoter and the new owners of Atomic Speedway could be worked out but, with just over a month until that event, it's clear that the parties are too far apart. We felt that it was in the best interest of the Championship to make this announcement now."\

Round two of the Championship will be held this weekend, May 21, at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.
