MILWAUKEE MILE NAMES RAMO STOTT GRAND MARSHAL FOR GOVERNOR'S CUP 200 THIS SUNDAY
Aero Warriors Reunion with Drivers, Winged Race Cars, Superbirds, Daytonas, Talladegas
Milwaukee, Wis. (August 21, 2007) - Sitting seventh on ARCA's all-time race winner's list with 27 checkered flags is Keokuk, Iowa's Ramo Stott, who has been announced as the Grand Marshal for the Governor's Cup 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race, this Sunday, August 26th at The Milwaukee Mile.
Stott drove to back-to-back ARCA series championships in 1970 and '71 driving a winged Plymouth Superbird, which will be at The Milwaukee Mile on display and rolling at the head of the field on a parade lap prior to the 12:00 p.m. CST green flag of the Governor's Cup 200.
Scheduled to join Stott will be a number of former ARCA and USAC standouts, including 1990 ARCA champion Bob Brevak and two-time ARCA series titleist Bill Venturini. Sal Tovella, Bay Darnell, Bob Schacht, and Gene and Don Marmor are among the other ARCA and USAC Stock Car drivers who will be joined be Norm Nelson crew members and many others in a one-time reunion.
This is in conjunction with the Daytona-Superbird Auto Club Aero Warriors Reunion planned for this weekend at The Milwaukee Mile, with thirty winged street cars converging on The Mile. A pre-race parade lap with the club members driving their winged wonders around The Mile is scheduled during the Governor's Cup 200 pre-race festivities this Sunday.
To truly give the race weekend a nostalgic presence, two fully-restored ARCA championship-winning race cars will pace the Governor's Cup field: the 1970 ARCA championship-winning Plymouth Superbird driven by Stott, currently owned by Ken Noffsinger, and the 1969 Ford Torino race car driven by Benny Parsons in his 1969 ARCA championship season, now owned by Barry Miller.
Stott scored 16 ARCA pole positions during his driving career and is still frequently found in the ARCA RE/MAX Series garage assisting his son Corrie and the Stott-Classic Auto Racing Team with driver Billy Tanner.
Tickets to this Sunday's Governor's Cup 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race, which also includes the Wisconsin All-Star 50 with Matt Kenseth super late model race later that afternoon, are available by calling the Milwaukee Mile at (414) 453-8277 or by visiting the speedway's website, www.milwaukeemile.com.
