Auto GP shines in the Castrol Driver Rankings

Auto GP is really shining in the Castrol Driver Rankings. The renowned classification edited by the British magazine Autosport allots points to every driver week after week considering their results and the level of the championships they are contesting, and the Auto GP drivers revealed to be the best placed among the feeder series below GP2. The best of them even managed to overcome some F.1 drivers.

In this special classification the best placed Auto GP driver is Luca Filippi, 55th with 8561 points, ahead of Sebastien Buemi and Jarno Trulli. Second among the series drivers is Romain Grosjean. Thanks to his two wins in Spa and Magny-Cours the Frenchman climbed to P67, with both Vitantonio Liuzzi and Kamui Kobayashi behind him.

Third Auto GP place in the Castrol standings is for Edoardo Piscopo: the championship leader is 108th overall, behind the experienced Sebastien Bourdais and ahead of GP2 driver Christian Vietoris. Then there's Jan Charouz (156th), Fabio Onidi (199th), Carlos Iaconelli (218th) and Julian Leal (242nd).

It's worth to notice that in last weekend's "Biggest movers" special classification, the Auto GP drivers do fill three of the top 5 spots. The most impressive "kangaroo" was Duncan Tappy: the brit made up an astounding 111 places in one weekend, jumping to P275. Big jump also for Carlos Iaconelli, 81 places up, and for Tambay (+49).

Adrien was very unlucky in Race 1 in Magny-Cours because his car stopped with 2 laps to go when he was leading and in full control, but this didn't hamper his placement too much: this is because the Castrol Driver Standings formula also considers the pace for every session and the laps in the lead, and from this standpoint Tambay was one of the best drivers during the whole weekend.

Looking to Auto GP's rival series, their best drivers can't match this performance: The best placed from the Ws by Renault grid is Esteban Guerrieri, who actually raced also in Auto GP in Magny-Cours, with P117. Formula 2's leader Jolyon Palmer is far behind, in 147th place. Best Regards
