BNS: Busch North Series at NE Motorsports Expo

AUGUSTA, Me. (December 21, 2000) - Two of the leading Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring teams will be represented by their show cars and their drivers at the NASCAR booth in the Northeast Motorsports Expo, January 5-7, at the August Civic Center in Augusta, Maine. Several other top Busch North Series drivers will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs over the weekend.

Both Dale Shaw with the #60 Guaranteed Overnight Delivery Chevrolet and Tracy Gordon with his #14 Tic Tac Chevrolet are scheduled to be on hand all three days of the show. Dave Dion is scheduled to appear on Friday night, while Mike Olsen, David Darling, and Paul Wolfe are set for Saturday appearances at the NASCAR booth. In addition, former Busch North Series champion Kelly Moore will appear to sign autographs Friday night at the NAPA booth.

Shaw, the 1994 Busch North Series champion, finished second in the 2000 Busch North Series point standings with two victories, including one at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Me. The Center Conway, N.H., driver's 16 career victories place him second on the all-time Busch North Series win list.

Gordon, from Strong, Me., placed third in the 2000 BNS point race after leading the title race at midseason. He recorded a series-leading five race victories, including four wins where he took the lead in the final 30 laps, and won the season-long Bud Pole Award with five fast qualifying times. The 1997 Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year was runner-up for the Busch North Series title in 1999.

Dion and Olsen finished fourth and fifth in the 2000 Busch North Series standings. Dion, the 1996 BNS champion, broke a two-year winless streak at the Seekonk (Mass.)Speedway in May, while Olsen captured the Flowmaster Award for position improvement during the 2000 season. Darling and Wolfe were two members of the outstanding Busch North Series rookie class of 2000. Wolfe, a New York native who recently moved his residence to Maine, scored an impressive fourth place finish at New Hampshire International Speedway in September.

Kelly Moore added four Bud Poles to his career record during a limited 2000 season giving him a total of 38. The Scarborough, Me., veteran is also the Busch North Series career leader in starts (255) and race wins (19).

Race fans visiting the NASCAR booth at the Northeast Motorsports Expo will also find 2001 schedules available for both the Busch North Series and the Featherlite Modified Series. The Expo is open Friday night, January 5, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, January 6, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In 2001, the Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring will compete in 20 races at 14 tracks from Maine to Delaware. The series opener is set for Sunday, April 22, at the Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H.

The Busch North Series is one of nine NASCAR Touring Series which blanket the USA, bringing major events to NASCAR Weekly Racing Series tracks as well as many superspeedways and road courses. NASCAR Touring competition has provided the training ground for many of racing's top names, including Winston Cup driver Ricky Craven and Winston Cup crew chiefs Greg Zipadelli and Frank Stoddard rom the Busch North Series, while providing a full career for many other racers.
