Richmond, VA - The quickest sport on two wheels! Virginia Motorsports Park will host the 3rd round of the 1998 AMA/Prostar series on May 30-31, 1998. The Dixie Nationals is a whole weekend jam-packed with side by side, wide-open, throttle-tapped motorcycle drag racing. Sit down and HOLD ON!
Nitro-powered, Top Fuel motorcycles capable of speeds in excess of 230 mph are pioleted by the best riders in the world. Tony "The Tiger" Lang is defending his Top Fuel National Championship which he has held for three consecutive years. Larry "Spiderman" McBride would like nothing more than to beat Lang on his home turf. McBride, a resident of Newport News, is hot on the tail of the fierce Tiger.
The Dixie Nationals will also feature turbocharged Funnybikes and nitro-burning Harleys. Gary Clark is looking to capture his third Funnybike National Championship in 1998. Clark is the holder of the all-time Funnybike World Record, 6.719-seconds @ 201.35 mph, and has run as quick as 6.64-seconds!
Team Kawasaki's Rickey Gadson, the first motorcycle drag racer to be supported by a factory team, is always a crowd favorite on his Kawasaki Pro Superbike. Gadson was riding motorcycles before his feet could even touch the ground. Rickey has definitely proved himself as a professional drag racing by winning multiple championships including the 1997 Pro Superbike National Championship. A crowd favorite, Gadson knows how to light up the tires of his Kawasaki and the audience!
Arrive early, the pits are open to the public! Meet your favorite riders and get their autographs. Be sure you bring your camera so that you can capture these powerful bikes on film before they zoom down the track!
