Porsche Club Racers Headed to VIRginia International Raceway
DANVILLE, VA -- A track full of Porsches is headed to VIR the weekend of August 9 & 10 when racers with the Porsche Club of American (PCA) bring their German sports cars to the historic 3.27-mile road course.
Though not the first appearance by PCA racers at VIR, this is the biggest Porsche-only race here, as Zone 2 of the club joins forces with local regions to stage the "Rumble at the Oak Tree" races. With competitors in everything from historic early models to the latest GT3 factory racers in classes based on performance, PCA races emphasize sportsmanship and fun along with competition.
"Join us in welcoming the PCA racers to VIR," said Josh Lief, VIR's general manager. "They've been here with other groups before and now they have the track to themselves for the first time. Porsches have raced at VIR from the first race in 1957 and this is another chapter in their history here."
Bill Williams, a racer with PCA, expressed his thoughts about the track: "I've raced at other tracks, but the opportunity to race at VIR is just too good to pass up," he commented. "Drivers who don't love driving VIR just don't enjoy the challenges of the best track I've ever seen."
Backed by Synergy Racing, a Porsche racing shop located at VIR's Raceplex, CDOC, VIR's Pro Shop and a host of additional Porsche-oriented businesses, the Rumble promises to be another of the great events at VIR. Don't miss this one.
