Tony Scott Andrews appointed Chairman of the Motor Sports Council

The Board of the Motor Sports Association has confirmed that Tony Scott Andrews has been selected to take over from Graham Stoker as Chairman of the Motor Sports Council with effect from 1st January 2010.

Graham Stoker, who has chaired the Council since 2001, took the decision to stand down following the FIA Presidential elections in October 2009 where, as part of the Jean Todt Team, he was elected to the position of FIA Deputy President for Sport. The commitment demanded by this new role made it impossible for Graham to continue to give full attention to his position as Chairman of the Motor Sports Council, although he will retain a seat as an Honorary Member of the Council and will remain the UK Titular Member of the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

Based in Oxfordshire, Tony Scott Andrews has been a lawyer for 35 years and has held an MSA competition licence since 1971. He was a founder member and is now President of the Classic Saloon Car Club/Classic Touring Car Racing Club which organises championships for touring cars of different eras. Tony won the Pre-‘57 Modified championship in an MG in 1983 and claimed championship success again in 1990 in the Pre-‘65 category at the wheel of a Ford Mustang. Since then, when time allows, he has campaigned a Camaro, Falcon and most recently a Rover Vitesse in Historic Group 1 Touring Cars.

On the administrative side of the sport, Tony is already a member of the Motor Sports Council and has chaired both the National Court and the Judicial Advisory Panel, as well as serving as a member of both the MSA Historic and Race Committees.

Tony first held an MSA Steward's licence in 1993 and was appointed Permanent Steward to the BTCC from 1998 to 2009. Having served as the National Steward at the British GP since 1999 (with the exception of 2007), and having been an FIA F1 Steward from 2003 to 2005, Tony was appointed FIA Permanent F1 Steward in 2006 and 2007. He has been chairman of the Stewards at the end of season Macau Grand Prix for the past ten years and in 2009 was also Permanent Steward for Formula BMW Europe.
