Comer Racing to campaign MT900R

Morrison Mosler Motorsports and Comer Racing today announced that Comer Racing will be the first team to campaign the all-new MT900R in the Grand American Road Racing series, beginning at the second event of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway, March 1-4,2001. The MT900R will be the second car in the Comer Racing stable, running alongside the #18 Chevrolet Corvette competing in the American Grand Touring (AGT) class.

Team Owner Jim Comer said, "We're very excited to get involved with the Morrison Mosler Motorsports program at this early stage of its development. We fell in love with the street version the first time we saw it here at Daytona in November and feel that it fits well with our existing Corvette program. While there will be an ongoing plan of development of this car as a competitive racing machine, we are confident that its concept and design will make it a success early on."

Tommy Morrison of Morrison Mosler Motorsports concurs. "We are very proud of the MT900R. We had a successful shake-down of the car here at the Rolex 24 Open Test and are anxious to get the car on track in a competitive situation. This is truly an 'All-American' program in that the MT900R is powered by and utilizes many off-the-shelf Corvette components -- the project just 'fits' for all of us. We look forward to working with Comer Racing on developing the car and winning races."

Warren Mosler elaborated, "Thanks to a lot of hard work from the outstanding crew at the Mosler Automotive shop in Riviera Beach, Florida, we were able to come to Daytona and turn one minute, 55-second laps straight out of the box. The fact that these times were achieved with a stock LS6 Corvette engine indicates to all of us that we are headed in the right direction with this program."

Comer Racing intends to test its Corvette entry at Charlotte Motor Speedway on January 18th, 2001 in preparation for the 39th running of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona on February 3rd and 4th. Comer Racing is the defending champion of the AGT class of the Rolex 24 and is anxious to build on the successes of the 2000 season.

"First and foremost, we want to successfully defend our Rolex 24 win", said Team Manager Steve Smith. "But we have no intention of stopping there. Our goals for the 2001 season also include winning the AGT team and driver championships and the overall GT championship. We have our work cut out for us but we believe with the work that we have put in over the off-season that these are realistic and achievable goals." Comer Racing's complete driver slate will be announced following the January 18th test.

Testing on the MT900R, which will compete in the Grand Touring (GT) class of the Grand American championship, will begin immediately following the Rolex 24 Hours ofDaytona.
