Ford trio tied atop driver standings

Brumos Racing takes early lead in team owner standings.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 11, 2003) -- Grand American Road Racing Association released its official Rolex Sports Car Series point standings following the first race of the 2003 season - the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Multimatic #88 Ford Daytona Prototype drivers Scott Maxwell, David Empringham and David Brabham are tied atop the new class' driver standings after finishing first in the Daytona Prototype class at the Rolex 24.

The trio of Ford drivers each received 35 points for their win, giving them a three-point advantage over Brumos' racers Hurley Haywood, J.C. France, Scott Sharp and Scott Goodyear.

However, Brumos Racing holds the early points lead in the class team owner standings. The second-place class finish by Brumos Racing's #59 Porsche-powered FABCAR Daytona Prototype at the Rolex 24 allowed the team to take the early lead with 32 points. Although the #88 Ford won the Daytona Prototype class at the season opener, the team is not a member of the Rolex Series Team Owners Program and was not eligible to receive team owner points for the victory.

Perspective Racing and its drivers - Joao Barbosa, Michel Neugarten, Andy Wallace and Jerome Policand - grabbed the lead in the GTS team owner and driver standings following their class win at the Rolex 24. With its 35 points, Perspective's #24 Mosler MT900R has a three-point lead over Morgan-Dollar Motorsports' #46 Corvette.

Kevin Buckler, Michael Schrom and Timo Bernhard are tied at the top of the GT driver point standings with 35 points following their overall and class win at the Rolex 24. Ralf Kelleners, Anthony Lazzaro and Johnny Mowlem trail by three points after finishing second.

With 30 points, Rennwerks Motorsports holds the lead in the GT team owner standings. Rennwerks' #83 Porsche GT3 RS finished third in class and overall, the highest finisher in the Team Owners Program. Marcus Motorsports holds the second position in the GT team owner standings, trailing the leader by five points.

Ross Bentley, Don Kitch, Joe Pruskowski and Justin Pruskowski are at the front of the SportsRacing Prototype II driver standings with 35 points after winning the class at the Rolex 24, while the G&W Motorsports #80 BMW-powered Picchio heads the class team owner standings with 26 points.

In the manufacturer point standings, Ford and Multimatic lead the Daytona Prototypes engine and chassis categories. Mosler is atop the GTS manufacturer standings and Porsche is at the front of the GT standings.
