Two Grand-Am Cup Titles Within Fenton Acura Team's Grasp

Aug. 25, 2006 -- Keene, NH -- The Grand-Am Cup series Street Tuner class season is down to its final two races of the season, and the Bill Fenton Motorsports Acura RSX-S drivers are hoping the final events will result in Manufacturer and Driver championships for Acura and for the team's lead drivers, brothers Matt ad Hugh Plumb.

"Everybody connected with our team is proud that we've scored Acura's best finish in six of the eight races so far this year, and that Matt and Hugh have been on the podium at each of the past five consecutive races," Fenton said.

"We just have to keep this consistency in the last two races."

The first challenge is a 200-mile race on Friday, Sept. 1 at the new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. The season's last race will be six grueling hours at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday, Oct. 8.

The Bill Fenton Motorsports Southern Auto Auction/Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles Acura team will have a new car in its arsenal for the final two races.

"We lost a car in a crash at Mid-Ohio," Fenton said. "Since then, Steve Wheeler and our crew have been building a new version of #29, and making sure the primary #27 car for Hugh and Matt is capable of winning.

"There were many usable parts on the wrecked car, and with the help of Honda/Acura, we were able to locate a street RSX," Fenton said.

Fenton returns to the cockpit at Miller Motorsports Park for the first time since Lime Rock Park's race in May. He'll share the new #29 car with Bob Beede, who is 14th in the Driver Championship points.

The team's most important goal, however, is doing its part to give Acura Cars its fifth Manufacturer Championship in Grand-Am Cup racing.

Acura trails Chevrolet by six points for that coveted title, after being down by 13 points two races ago.

"The Manufacturer Championship is the most important trophy for any team owner," Fenton said, "especially for teams with good ties to their car's manufacturer. We've been proud to race Acura cars to 12 wins in Grand-Am Cup."

Matt and Hugh Plumb are tied for third place in the Driver Champinship points. They have the same point count as the second-place teammates, Eric Curran and Jamie Holtom, but less wins.

The four men are only four points out of the lead, trailing BMW drivers Will Turner and Don Salama, who have yet to win a race, but their worst finish is only a 11th place.
