Synergy Racing Ready for Run for Rolex Crown

ALTON, Va. (September 21, 2005) -- With only three races remaining in the 2005 Rolex Sports Car Series, every race, every lap and, most importantly, every point counts in the final run for the GT championship. Synergy Racing put itself out front in the GT title race early in the season and has not relinquished the lead.

Entering this weekend's Crown Royal 250 at The Glen, Synergy's No. 80 Porsche entry holds a 10-point lead in the team standings and Craig Stanton (Long Beach, Calif.) has a 17-point advantage in the driver points. But the team and drivers Stanton and David Murry (Atlanta, Ga.) know everyone will be jockeying for positions and points during the final three rounds, and they are ready to defend their lead in the final stretch.

"Synergy has done a good job of looking at the big picture, knowing we want to win a championship, and making the right choices. Look at all the championships they've won in the past. They know how to do it," said Murry, currently third in the driver standings, one point down to BMW rival Joey Hand.

"And I couldn't ask for a better co-driver. Craig was able to win the Grand-Am Cup championship last year when I raced with him. We know how to do it together," Murry continued.

"We have probably the best Porsche GT3 Cup car/driver pairing on the planet," remarked Stanton. "Still, that being said, we are coming off one of our perfect races (Phoenix), a race that went totally green, and we got lapped twice. I think it shows that we probably need 40 more horsepower and four more inches of tire per corner to run with the rest of the manufacturers."

Both drivers are determined to prove they can overcome any disadvantage experienced due to series regulations, and they do not plan on backing off of their pursuit of Synergy's first win of the season during the final three events.

"We want to win as much as we want to win the championship," Murry said. "The speed of the car does not exactly dictate the outcome. We've shown this season we can be in position to win with good strategy and a solid line-up, but you have to have a little luck as well."

Stanton and Murry will participate in practice for the Crown Royal 250 at The Glen on Thursday. Qualifying will be held on Friday afternoon, and the race will get underway at 3 p.m. on Saturday following IRL IndyCar qualifying.

About Synergy Racing
Team owners Cole Scrogham and Danny and Steve Marshall introduced Synergy Racing in December 2004. Based at Virginia International Raceway, Synergy Racing is an evolution of G&W Motorsports, which had catered to Porsche racing since 1996 and became the most successful team in the Rolex Sports Car Series with four championships, 15 class wins and more than 50 podium finishes. The team underwent a major transformation that included a name and logo change, as well as a complete restructuring into a customer-based championship racing business, which concentrates on the needs of the customer rather than the desires of the team.
