ATLANTA, Ga. – Spencer Pumpelly will pilot Flying Lizard Motorsports’ No. 45 Audi R8 LMS for the full 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship.
The new year brings a new car and a new racing series for Pumpelly. The two main sports car championships in North America, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and GRAND-AM Rolex Series, have combined into a new championship: The Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSC). Pumpelly will join Flying Lizard Motorsports’ campaign in the new series, this includes a new category, GTD, and a new car, the Audi R8 LMS.
After a successful 2013 ALMS GTC season in which Pumpelly aided Flying Lizard Motorsports’ GTC Team Championship with three pole positions and six podium finishes, including three race wins, the sportscar ace re-joins Flying Lizard Motorsports in search of the first ever GTD Championship in TUSC history.“I am extremely excited about the 2014 season,” Pumpelly said. “It’s an honor to be back with Flying Lizard Motorsport, which is, undoubtedly, one of the premier sports car teams in North America, and everyone will have their eye on us. The Audi R8 is going to be a new challenge, but one that I’m looking forward to. I think we’re in good shape to take on a highly competitive GTD field.”
Pumpelly will hit the track this weekend for the Roar Before the 24, three days of testing at Daytona International Speedway. The test days are preparation for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the official kick off to the 2014 season, January 23 – 26.
