MCI Supports Motorsports Ministries

(July 16, 1998) -- Motorsports Ministries, which provides ministerial support to the professional auto racing community, has received a donation from MCI Sports to assist the non-denominational ministry in providing pastoral care to the CART Racing Community and the FedEx Championship Series.

The announcement was made by Andy Deas, director of MCI Sports.

"Our involvement strengthens our commitment to competitive auto racing while providing a service to the racing communities," said Deas.

"This support by MCI demonstrates its commitment to the entire CART community," said Hunter Floyd, senior chaplain for Motorsports Ministries with the Champ Car series. "There is a large and mobile community serving the CART series. These folks are away from their local support mechanisms of family, friends, churches and social organizations for a good part of the year. It is gratifying to see that MCI recognizes the need for emotional and spiritual support within the racing community."

The funding provided by MCI, which sponsors the Arciero-Wells Racing Team and theMCI Reynard Toyota of Max Papis in the Champ Car series, will be applied to the services budget of the chaplains serving three CART-owned series - the FedEx Championship Series, the PPG Dayton Indy Lights and the KOOL Toyota Atlantic Championship.

MCI Sports is a key sponsor of high profile sports properties including Major League Baseball, Championship Auto Racing Teams and the Goodwill Games. Through sponsorships, hospitality and promotional expertise, MCI Sports is creating opportunities for MCI to build business-to-business relationships as well as provide opportunties for involvement with local communities around the country.
