Karting loses key figure in Larry Streeter
06.14.2010 - Larry Streeter, owner and founder of the nationally known kart-stand business Streeter Super Stands, passed away Saturday while working in his Oak Creek, Wisconsin, shop. He was 63.
WKA is not certain of the official cause of Streeter's death.
Streeter was involved in karting for well over 30 years. He raced sprint and enduro karts for years and owned Streeter Super Stands for at least 25 years, according to Franklin Motorsports' George Sieracki.
Streeter Super Stands is one of the leaders in the industry in kart-stand production. Streeter made a full-time living with his kart-stand business. He still traveled to all WKA Manufacturer's Cup Series races and has been a WKA sponsor for a number of years. The Streeter Super Stands Web site lists 96 dealers of Streeter products in North America.
Franklin's Jamie Sieracki, a longtime friend and associate of Streeter's, spoke highly of his fellow Milwaukee-area karter.
"Larry always had a smile on his face and I never heard him talk bad about anyone. His whole life was about karting. It was his work and what he did in his free time. Larry was all about being social; he was easy to talk to and easy to work around. I think we took for granted how great it was to know Larry and be friends with him. He was like family. When you saw the (Streeter) box truck, you knew Larry and (wife) Judy were there and usually sitting in lawn chairs waiting to help someone out or just shoot the breeze," Jamie Sieracki said.
WKA extends its sympathies to Streeter's friends and family, and especially his wife Judy. If there are calling hours, WKA will publish them on WorldKarting.com and send out a follow-up Pit Board announcement as soon as possible.
