FIA Technical Director Bernard Niclot and ACO Sporting Director Vincent Beaumesnil gave the media at Spa-Francorchamps a special briefing on the LMP1 technical regulations to clarify some of the points that had been raised and reported on in the press since the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The points clarified in the briefing were:

- Energy Recovery System (ERS) rules decrease fuel consumption of big ERS cars, and as a consequence increase their autonomy.

- However in Le Mans, 2 MJ, 4MJ or 6 MJ cars can only do 13 laps per stint if they use their full engine performance.

- ERS systems have not got any artificial performance advantage. On the contrary they have been partially penalized in order to avoid excessive domination, but keeping incentive for teams to go to big ERS systems.

- Diesel engine benefit of an additional fuel allocation in order to compensate their overweight respect to gasoline powertrain.

- In any case, don’t forget that the EOT process is just about powertrain and does not reflect the overall performance of the car which depends on many other parameters.

- LMP1-L cars have the benefit of a dedicated BOP rule in order to keep them in the race.
