Fairfield, IA (June 17, 2001) - Brad Funk became the first repeat winner of the 2001 Winged Three-Quarter Midget Association season Sunday, June 17, 2001 at the Jefferson County Speedway in Fairfield, IA. Funk took the lead from, promising rookie, Brian Landry with two laps to go to win his second feature in two days.

This race marked the first day race of the season for the WTQMA and the hot sun did not make it easy on the drivers. Several drivers found it hard to see as the track became very dry and dusty.

The only heat race of the night went to Mike Raymond who now leads the way in heat race wins with four. Following Raymond was Tracy Hull substituting for Jeff Mallonee and Funk.

The feature race was exciting with Landry leading the way. The rest of the field battled the conditions and eachother for position. Landry held the lead with two laps to go when Funk and Bart Andrews were able to get by. Funk held off Andrews to the finish to become the first repeat winner of the 2001 season.
