Ranger To Start On The Dickies 200 Pole; Sets Track Record In The Process
BOWMANVILLE, Ont. -- Andrew Ranger earned the pole position in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series qualifying for the Dickies 200 at Mosport International Raceway. He worked his way around the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course in a series track record 85.119 seconds for an average lap speed of 104.000 mph.
It is the first pole of the season for Ranger (No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford) and the fourth of his series career. He last started first on the grid last July in Edmonton. All four poles have come on road courses for the product of Roxton Pond, Que.
The previous track record of 85.375 seconds (103.688 mph) was set by Scott Steckly (No. 22 Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge) on June 14, 2008.
This time around, Steckly will start on the outside of Ranger for Sunday's race. He posted a time of 85.398 seconds (103.661 mph). He finished second to Ranger a year ago in road-course events in Montreal and Trois-Rivieres, Que.
The second row will consist of Kerry Micks (No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging Ford) who timed in at 85.832 seconds (103.136 mph) and Don Thomson Jr. (No. 4 Home Hardware Chevrolet) with his time of 85.845 seconds (103.121 mph).
Rounding out the top 10 qualifiers is DJ Kennington, Anthony Simone, Dave Whitlock, Robin Buck, Mark Dilley and Jason Hathaway.
The Dickies 200 is scheduled to get underway Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. ET
