Daytona adds Discount Auto Parts to its Speedweeks Lineup

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 8) -- Discount Auto Parts, (NYSE-DAP) a leading automotive parts and accessories retailer based in Lakeland, Fla., announced today that it has signed on as title sponsor of one of Daytona International Speedway's premier events, the 200-mile NASCAR Goody's Dash Series stock car race.

The Discount Auto Parts 200 will be contested Feb. 14, 1997, when more than 40 of the top stars of NASCAR's four-cylinder division hit the high banks of the world famous Daytona International Speedway.

Discount Auto Parts, which operates 340 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina, currently fields a car in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series driven by veteran motorsports broadcaster Pat Patterson and built by Dean Combs, the Dash series' only five-time champion.

The Discount Auto Parts 200 is the most lucrative and prestigious race on the 21-event schedule for NASCAR's Goody's Dash Series. It is part of a popular Speedweeks doubleheader of racing coupled with the True Value Firebird International Race of Champions.

"We're excited about our sponsorship of the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series event at Daytona," said Peter Fontaine, president of Discount Auto Parts. "This is one of racing's biggest weeks and we're proud to be part of it."

Lyndon Amick of Rock Hill, S.C., is the defending champion of the Discount Auto Parts 200. In 1996, he became the youngest winner of a stock car race at Daytona International Speedway when he captured the event as a 19-year-old. Amick went on to capture the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series championship.

"We're thrilled to add Discount Auto Parts to our family of event sponsors," said Daytona International Speedway President John Graham. "Discount Auto Parts has an impressive track record of quality service and innovative marketing, and is exactly the type company we strive to affiliate ourselves with. We look forward to the partnership."
