Fontana Dodge chassis notes

BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) Elliott will race chassis No. 08 at California Speedway. It's the same Dodge Intrepid chassis he drove to a 16th-place finish earlier this season at Atlanta. Elliott finished 19th in last year's NAPA 500, 32nd last week at Talladega and ranks 10th in the NASCAR Winston Cup Standings (NWCS).

CASEY ATWOOD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) Atwood will drive Evernham Motorsports chassis No. 16 at California Speedway. It's a brand new car. The team tested it recently at Michigan Speedway. Atwood, a Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender, finished 22nd last year in the Busch Series race at California Speedway. He finished 30th at Talladega and ranks 35th in the NWCS and fourth in the six-driver rookie competition.

WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T) Burton will drive chassis No. 44 at California Speedway, the same chassis that carried him to a 21st-place finish earlier this season at Las Vegas. Burton finished sixth last year at California Speedway, 33rd at Talladega and ranks 16th in the NWCS.

STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T) Marlin will drive chassis No. 105 at California. It's the same chassis he used at Atlanta, Las Vegas and Texas with finishes of 35th, third and 34th, respectively. Marlin finished 32nd last year at California Speedway. He ended up 23rd last week at Talladega but led the most laps -- four times for 51 laps. Marlin is one of only two drivers who has led a lap in all nine races this season. He's run out front 27 times for 246 laps and has earned 50 bonus points in the process. Marlin ranks fifth in the NWCS, just 47 points behind second-place Jeff Gordon and 192 points behind leader Dale Jarrett.

JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T) Andretti will drive the same chassis at California Speedway that carried him to a sixth-place finish earlier this season at Darlington. Andretti finished 25th last year at California Speedway. He finished 37th at Talladega and ranks 29th in the NWCS.

BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T) Jones will drive a brand new Dodge Intrepid R/T out of the Petty Enterprises stables at California Speedway. Jones is coming off his best finish of the season, a 16th-place performance last week at Talladega. He also drove the highest finishing Dodge at Talladega. Jones started 23rd and finished 23rd in last year's Busch race at California Speedway. He ranks 37th in the NWCS.

KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T) Petty will drive his Atlanta chassis at California Speedway. Petty qualified 18th and finished 42nd at Atlanta. Petty finished 26th last year at California Speedway. He didn't qualify last week at Talladega and ranks 45th in the NWCS.

STACY COMPTON (No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid R/T) Compton will drive chassis No. 28 at California Speedway. He finished 27th with it earlier this season at Las Vegas. Compton finished 28th as a rookie last year at California Speedway. He won the pole last week at Talladega but finished last (43rd) when engine problems sidelined him after 116 of 188 laps. Compton ranks 32nd in the NWCS.

DAVE BLANEY (No. 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T) Blaney will drive the same chassis he used earlier this season at Atlanta and Texas. He finished 34th at Atlanta after leading three times for 70 laps. Blaney scored a career-best sixth at Texas. Blaney finished 38th as a rookie last year at California Speedway and 17th last week at Talladega. He ranks 27th in the NWCS.

JASON LEFFLER (No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T) Leffler, a 25-year-old Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender from Long Beach, Calif., will drive chassis No. 108 at California Speedway. He finished 32nd with it earlier this season at Atlanta. Leffler finished 39th in last year's Busch Series race at California Speedway. Leffler finished 20th last week at Talladega and ranks 39th in the NWCS and fifth in the rookie standings.
