Daytona 2 race notes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 6, 2001) -- A dominant Robert Huffman in the No. 37 White House Apple Juice/TRD Toyota outlasted the rest of the field to take the checkered flag in the DAYTONAUSA.com 150 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series race Friday night at Daytona International Speedway.

Huffman, the Series' reigning points champion, won the race by a .104-second margin over the No. 10 Sterling Casino Cruise Lines Mercury of second-place finisher Danny Bagwell.

Rounding out the top five were Shane Hmiel in the No. 26 Pipeline Chassis Pontiac; Zach Brewer in the No. 31 Burton's Wildlife Habitat Foundation Pontiac; and the No. 38 Pontiac of Roger Sawyer.

"This year we started out not having such a good season, I think you call that racing luck. We'll just have to catch them at the end," Huffman said. "We had a great race car tonight and there were a lot of other great race cars out there. Due to the qualifying procedure (due to inclement weather the field was set according to points), we had to start a lot of fast race cars in the back. We happened to stay in front of them all night. We wound up in the right place at the right time and that's what it takes to win races."

There were five cautions during the race, which saw five lead changes among five drivers. One incident near the end of the event sent 10 drivers to the infield care center and halted action on the track as the race was red-flagged for 17 minutes. No injuries were sustained.

The DAYTONAUSA.com 150 was the support race for Saturday's Pepsi 400. Sterling Marlin will lead the field for the event, which will feature four Dodges in the top four starting positions.

Additionally, the Pepsi 400 is a No Bull 5 event. The five top finishers from the May's race in Concord, N.C. - Jeff Burton, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and Bobby Labonte - can earn a $1 million bonus for themselves and for one lucky fan with a win in Daytona's mid-summer classic.
