Dallas: Kenny Koretsky Motorsports success is near

ENNIS, TEXAS - - The future is looking brighter for the Kenny Koretsky Motorsports Pro Stock team as they prepare for the Castrol Nationals presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts which begins today at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.

"We are beginning to get our equipment inventory up to par with the rest of the teams in the category," said team owner Kenny Koretsky, of Richboro, Penn. "We have a new Jerry Bickel-built Camaro arriving next week. Our engine development program headed by Frank Iaconio is on schedule and for the first time this season we will have back up motors available should anything happen to our primary piece.

"Both team manager and driver Rickie Smith along with crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia, Jr., have done an excellent job readying us for the long summer haul. I feel we are now in a position to make an impact in the points battle with teams that are contending for the Pro Stock championship. Our success is just around the corner," added Koretsky. "We want to be a factor the remainder of the season and position ourselves to contend for the title next year.

"Next season will mark Rickie Smith's 25th year of competition. What could be more fitting than to have the five-time IHRA champion win the NHRA championship during his silver anniversary year."

Both Kenny Koretsky Motorsports team cars will be in competition when qualifying begins today, with Smith, of King, N.C., handling the driving duties on the team's Camaro and Koretsky at the wheel of the Firebird.

Looking ahead to qualifying, Smith had these thoughts. "We have to have our act together the entire weekend and be ready each and every session. The (Texas) Motorplex is known as a fast track and it should live up to its billing this weekend. The only thing that may hold the teams back is the heat and humidity. They are not friends of these Pro Stock cars," he said.

Two qualifying sessions are scheduled for today and two more on Saturday. Final eliminations and the crowning of this year's Castrol Nationals presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts champions are scheduled for Sunday.
