Las Vegas: Stanfield's S-10 number one qualifier

Stanfield No. 1 Qualifier For Summit Racing Nationals

LAS VEGAS, April 7, 2001 - After long, numerous rain delays today, Greg Stanfield used the final two Pro Stock Truck qualifying sessions to full advantage to put the DBP Enterprises Chevy S-10 on the pole for the Summit Racing.com Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Stanfield won the top starting position with a track-record elapsed time and speed of 7.595 seconds at 178.47 mph.

Randy Daniels took the No. 2 qualifying position in the Bailey Trucking Chevy S-10 with an identical elapsed time to Stanfield of 7.595 seconds, but a slower top speed of 177.28 mph which dropped Daniels to the second spot.

Bob Panella Jr. who was the No. 1 qualifier after Friday's two sessions will enter raceday in the No. 3 spot. The Panella Trucking Chevy S-10 had an elapsed time of 7.597 seconds at 178.59 mph. John Lingenfelter is qualified fourth in a GMC Sonoma and Jeff Gracia is qualified fifth in a Sonoma.

PRO STOCK TRUCK

Greg Stanfield (DBP Enterprises Chevy S-10) - "I'd pretty much say it was a luck factor there that helped us out. There are quite a few trucks that are within a few thousandths of a second and e used a little luck to get the pole today. I think the left lane is better then the right. It's about two hundredths better in my S-10. I'm happy to have lane choice for tomorrow. Randy (Daniels) made a nice lap that last run. Fortunately we just had a little bit of speed on him to keep the pole position, but yeah he made a nice run. I felt real good at the 60-foot line in the right lane. We put some spoiler into the truck - two degrees, and it obviously hurt it about a half-mile an hour but it kept the truck stable down track. So we kind of know what we've got to do. There are some bumps out there about 600-feet out and it seems to upset the trucks. We're very happy to have lane choice tomorrow. It's definitely an advantage. I ran a 7.595 on the left side and a 7.605 on the right so we feel very confident going into tomorrow. I don't think you can think about the points battle before you think about consistency. You have to be consistent and get down the track every run. The DBP Enterprises Chevrolet S-10 is running great and I feel we have a good chance tomorrow to go after that win."
