Dixon Qualifies Second, Closes In On Top Fuel Title At Pomona
JPOMONA, Calif. (November 13, 2010) -- Larry Dixon qualified second and is just one elimination round win away from clinching his third Top Fuel championship in Sunday's Auto Club NHRA Finals at Pomona at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif.
Dixon will take an 82-point lead into tomorrow's Finals and needs simply to win his opening round match-up against Mike Strasburg to win his first title since winning back-to-back championships in 2002 and 2003. He's led the championship race since taking over the series lead with a victory here at Las Vegas in April.
All four of the Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel cars qualified in the top half of the field. Following Dixon was Morgan Lucas in fourth, Shawn Langdon in sixth and Antron Brown in eighth. Cruz Pedregon continued his strong late-season in Funny Car with a fifth-place run, while fellow Toyota Camry Solara driver Del Worsham was just one place behind in sixth.
