Team Jeg's Continues to Gain Momentum in Pomona
Team Jeg's drivers Jeg and Troy Coughlin continued their quest for a spot in the quick sixteen Pro Stock field for the K&N Filters NHRA Nationals Friday afternoon at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. Both drivers looked to improve upon their performances from the first day of qualifying in an effort to gain valuable qualifying positions in what is considered to be the most competitive professional class in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Troy Coughlin had a solid pass of 6.90 seconds at 200.23 mph in the second qualifying session. Although the pass was not enough to get into the field of sixteen, it was certainly a big step in the right direction.
"The run was a little soft," said Troy. "But it definitely gives us a good baseline as we work to dial our Jeg's Mail Order Cavalier in for the third and fourth sessions tomorrow. If the weather cooperates, tomorrow morning will be the time to bring your best stuff to the track. Our run today gave us a good place to start towards that goal."
Jeg Coughlin's pass nearly mirrored his qualifying effort from Thursday. The Jeg's Mail Order machine posted an elapsed time of 6.86 seconds at 200.77 mph just over a tenth of a mph faster than Thursday's run. Jeg's Chevy Cavalier was fourth fastest for the day at sixty feet.
"We were pleased to make another solid run for Team Jeg's," commented Jeg. "But we definitely have the opportunity to pick up the pace early in the run. We didn't want to overpower the track, and we may have been a little conservative. The numbers indicate that we were on pace for a 6.83 et. which is closer to what we were looking for. Nevertheless, it was a nice pass that should yield some good information to help get the Jeg's Mail Order machine fine tuned for the rest of qualifying."
After two rounds of qualifying action, Jeg Coughlin holds steady in the No.15 position while Troy Coughlin advanced closer to the sixteen car field. Two qualifying sessions remain for the K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals and both will be contested in Saturday's action at the Fairplex in Pomona.
