UK: Glynn Geddie Silverstone summary

PACE BUT NO LUCK FOR GEDDIE AT SILVERSTONE

Aberdeen's Glynn Geddie finished Rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 6th and 5th places respectively at Silverstone yesterday. After a promising start to the meeting which saw the Apex Tubulars-backed 20 year-old top the timesheets in Friday testing, he struggled in Saturday's qualifying which put him on the back foot for both races.

Starting from P5 for Race 1, Geddie had a difficult opening lap when he was pushed on to the grass at Brooklands which put him down in 9th position. As he fought his way through the field he once again had to take evasive action and was forced onto the grass when two cars touched immediately in front of him at Maggotts.

The incident put Geddie further down in P12 but a great recovery drive saw him fight his way back through the field to finish in an unsatisfactory 6th place.

In Race 2 Geddie made a good start but straight away got boxed in behind Michael Meadows, despite having better pace, as the pair hunted for P3 with Team Parker Racing team mate Stephen Jelley.

Geddie pushed and pushed from 5th position, and was never further than three-tenths of a second away from Meadows' rear bumper, trying everything he could to get past throughout the race.

Then on lap 15 the safety car was deployed while Paul Mace's car was removed from harm's way after an incident, and Geddie stayed nose-to-bumper with Meadows as soon as the race got back under way. The close battle between the leading trio of Jelley, Meadows and Geddie allowed 6th placed Jonas Gelzinis to start closing in on Geddie, but the Scot didn't let it affect him and concentrated on the car in front, although he kept 5th position until the race's time limit was up, despite constantly threatening Meadows.

Glynn Geddie:
"It's been a frustrating weekend as we've demonstrated the pace was there to be on the podium and on Friday things were looking up. Unfortunately we just couldn't carry that through to qualifying which ultimately affected how the race turned out for us.

"The car felt good in both of the races and we've made a few more improvements which should hopefully give us an edge at Knockhill. There are only six more races to go now before the season is out, so we need to keep the pressure on and continue to make progress with our car in order to get the best possible result in the championship."

Geddie is still 5th in the drivers' standings but has closed the gap to 4th-placed team mate Euan Hankey to just four points after claiming his 22 points at Silverstone.
