Morris clinches first Club win

Peter Morris won his first Michelin Porsche Club race this weekend in an action packed 25 minute event at Silverstone.

Morris qualified his 968 Club Sport in 2nd, but an average start left him 5th into the first corner. "The 911's tend to get a better start than the 968's" said Morris, "so I decided the best thing to do was concentrate on getting through the first corner cleanly, as the 25 minute race gave me plenty of time to pick the best places to pass and catch up any lost positions".

The front of the Michelin Porsche Club race was incredibly closely fought, with the lead swapped five times between the 911 Carreras of John Williams, Craig Rapp and Ian White, before Peter Morris in his 968 CS managed to work his way up from 5th to take the lead off Ian White on lap 12, holding on to this for the remaining 10 laps.

"I'm still getting used to the breaking ability and grip levels on the 968" comments Morris, "but with every race I'm getting more confidence in the handling. I'm looking forward to lots more races like Silverstone this season, and I'm confident this will be the first win of many!"

Peter Morris' team mate Chris Egginton (968CS) started from pole, but a first corner nudge sent him spinning out, he recovered but rejoined at the back. Egginton drove a superb race to clinch 3rd place on the last lap, giving the Team GVR's 968s two podium finishes in what was one of the most closely fought races the Championship has seen for a long time.
