Chan Pan will start Saturday's Hotel Fortuna MAC/HKG Interport Race from pole position after the Hong Kong driver set the quickest lap with just two minute remaining in the 30-minute session. Macau's Filipe C. de Souza, second in last year's race, will join Chan on the front row, while fellow Macau driver Wong Hou Man was third fastest.
It was a busy final few minutes of qualifying as de Souza and Wong both set their fastest times during the last minute, coming within a second of Chan.
Fourth-fastest in the session was Leong Ian Veng of Macau, who had topped the time sheet until Chan set his 2:48.555 lap to earn pole, with Macau's Sergio de Lacerda a tenth of a second behind in fifth.
With the 36 drivers representing either Macau or Hong Kong, the competing Special Administrative Regions each go into Saturday's race hoping to bring home the victor's laurels for their respective cities.
Macau Road Sport Challenge
Philip Yau in a Nissan GTR 35 will start from pole for the three-class Macau Road Sport Challenge, with Macau's Sun Tit Fan in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. IX joining the Hong Kong driver on the front row. Hong Kong's Jonathan Hui in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. VIII, who led yesterday's free practice, was third-fastest in qualifying.
While the top three overall qualifiers were Class A drivers, fourth overall and first in Class B is Lei Chong Seng of Macau in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. VIII, while Macau's Paulo Batalha in a Honda S2000 was fastest in Class C and qualified 11th overall.
CTM Macau Touring Car Race
Hong Kong's Lo Ka Fai earned pole position for tomorrow's CTM Macau Touring Car Race with a 2:43.782 lap on the Guia Circuit, edging out Hong Kong driver Philip Ma by just one-tenth of a second.
Andy Yan and Lo Ka Chun, both from Hong Kong, will comprise the second row of the grid for Saturday's race, with Yan continuing his strong form after leading yesterday's free practice session. Japan's Naoya Yamano was fifth quickest in the session.
