NASPORT EXPLODES AT THUNDERHILL'S FIRECRACKER RACES!

WILLOWS, Calif. -- More than 20 NASPORT GT-3 and GT-4 sport sedans will take the green flag Sunday July 2nd at for Round Three of their 1995 season, at Thunderhill Park in Willows, CA at the Second Annual Firecracker Road Races, as part of the San Francisco Region-Sports Car Club of America Holiday Jamboree.

Among those coming back for NASPORT's second race at the challenging 1.814-mile road course in Northern California are Duane Ablamis of Los Gatos, who won last year's inaugural Holiday Jamboree in his A&M Motorsports/Johnson Engineering Mazda RX7; John Goddard of Oakland who last year set the NASPORT fastest lap record with a time of 1:15.661 in his Vallejo Nissan 240SX; Steve Zlotkin of San Juan Bautista CA, 1994 NASPORT GT-4 winner, racing his first race this season in the Eurospec Racing Scirroco; Jeff Scoville of Corvallis OR who is currently leading the GT-3 points in the Jack Scoville Ltd Nissan 240SX; and Don Nimi, the current GT-4 class leader all the way from North Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada driving his Great West Paper Box Nissan PL510.

Larry Hansen from nearby Eureka CA will be returning with his Six Rivers Bank/Eureka High School Auto Club Nissan 240SX. Hansen. a Eureka High School teacher, is second in the 1995 GT-3 points chase, with his race car built, prepared and maintained by his students who comprise his pit crew. Last year's GT-3 runner-up at Thunderhill, Frank Honsowetz of El Segundo is trying for his first win in the Creative Endeavors Nissan 240SX.

Actress Marsha Mason, the only female NASPORT driver, is wrapping up her latest Paramount film with Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken, and will be competing with her teammate, Mike Lewis of San Diego CA in their Red Line Oil/Cyclo Products GT-3 Mazda RX-7's. Lewis is also competing in selected SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am races, and is the only NASPORT driver to ever have led a Trans-Am race, which Lewis did two weeks ago in Portland at the Rose Cup Races.

NASPORT draws from the Western United States, with drivers coming from as far away as Canada, and the Pacific Northwest as well as New Mexico and Arizona. NASPORT crowns both Driver and Manufacturer Champions in two categories, GT-3 and GT-4. Currently, Nissan is leading all categories in this, the ninth season of NASPORT competition for highly-modified, specially-built sport sedans in SCCA-sanctioned races.

The schedule calls for three NASPORT practice sessions on Saturday, qualifying Sunday morning, followed by the half-hour NASPORT race at 1:55 p.m. Afterwards are all welcome to come share in the NASPORT victory ceremonies at the NASPORT hospitality trailer in the paddock.
