Goulart and Dolphin Motorsports Enter Formula SCCA Championship

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (March 9, 2004) - Elivan Goulart, of Huntington, Conn., has announced he will contest the entire 2004 Formula SCCA Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, with Dolphin Motorsports.

Born in Brazil, Goulart began racing karts at the age of 12 after moving to the U.S.A. Winning in only his third ever race, Goulart quickly showed he had great skill and captured the Rookie of the Year award in only his first year of racing. Continuing to race karts for three years, Goulart competed in 58 races, winning an astonishing 37. Following his great success in the karting ranks, he began racing Formula 500 in SCCA competition. Maintaining his winning ways, Goulart soon became the driver to beat in the class. In 2001, Goulart won the SCCA Club Racing Northeast Division and captured his first National Championship at the Valvoline Runoffs. The following year he repeated as National Champion, becoming the only driver to win two Formula 500 National Championships. Last year, Goulart began racing the new Formula SCCA car. Competing in five races, Goulart won three, including one in the Formula SCCA National Championship Pro Series.

"I'm really looking forward to the upcoming season," said Goulart. "I think it's going to be a very exciting championship. Given the race experience I have in the car, combined with the team I have supporting me, I think we have a good shot at the championship."

Born in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jim Elder formed Dolphin Motorsports in 1989. Originally a very successful driver/owner team, Dolphin Motorsports has grown into a championship winning multi-car team. The team has dominated the Formula 500 class in the Southeast Division for 11 years, winning several championships. This year, Dolphin Motorsports will contest three cars in the Formula SCCA Championship. Joining Goulart will be Orlando, Fla. native Jack Corthell and Desiderio Sartelli. Corthell has won numerous Formula 500 races in SCCA competition, while Sartelli has FIA karting experience in his native Italy.

Widely regarded as North America's premier training series, the Cooper Tires Championship Series offers the complete motorsports education, with emphasis on cost-effective racing. Racing throughout the United States and Canada, the Cooper Series will showcase the best young drivers from around the world on a challenging mix of racetracks.

The 2004 Formula SCCA Championship season gets underway March 16-18, 2004 at Sebring International Raceway. As part of the 52nd Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, Formula SCCA will race in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series and SCCA Pro Racing.
