Motorsport.com -- The Baja 1000 overall winners are Johnny Campbell, San Clemente, and Tim Staab, San Diego, on a Honda XR650. Campbell became the first person in history to clinch four-consecutive Baja victories. And it was anything but easy for them as they ran into an ATV that suddenly appeared on the course (not a competitor) and had an argument with a cow. Campbell keeps chalking up victories in offroad racing.

The unofficial average speed was 48.84 MPH and elapsed time was 13 hours 51 minutes and 40 seconds for Campbell and Staab.

Second overall for the Baja 1000 and first overall in the four-wheel category was Doug Fortin and Charles Townsley in a Jimco. The was Forin's first overall Baja victory who commented, "It was a very rough -- typical of Baja."

Second in Class 1 was the Smith built Herbst Truggy of Larry Roeseller and Troy Herbst. Unofficially, that should give them the SCORE Class 1 championship. Earlier in the event, the Truggy was doing battle with the F-150 Trophy Truck of Dan Smith and David Ashley. At San Telmo, both vehicles had break downs. "This poor baby, she took some hits," said Roseller about the Truggy.

Smith and Ashley came across the line for First in Trophy Truck, earning their SCORE class championship. "Things went exactly the way we planned. Everything broke exactly as we planned," commented Smith.

Scott Steinberger and Dane Cardone in a Ford F-150 crossed the line for first place in ProTruck.
