PETALUMA, 4-24-98 - After nearly a one month hiatus, the Hoosier Racing Tires California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series will return to action this Saturday night, April 24 at John Soares' Petaluma Speedway located on the Petaluma Fairground in Petaluma, California. The California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series is a traveling sanction body dedicated to 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars. The series treks to five different California tracks including Marysville, Placerville, Petaluma, Antioch and Silver Dollar Speedways between the months of March and October to compete in a total of 13 events. Drivers competing in the CSCCWRS are awardand well as earnings for their success in each event that takes place which posts more that $10,000 in nightly purse money. Additionally, the series posts a $20,000 championship fund which is divided up accordingly to the top ten point earners at the conclusion of the newly sponsored Hoosier Racing Tires series. Topping the entry list for Saturday's event, the 2nd of the current 13-race campaign, is current series point leader Roger Crockett of Rio Linda. The defending series champion, Crockett earned the early point lead last month at the series opener at Marysville with a second place finish in the feature event combined with a third place in qualifying which earned him two bonus points, enough to place him two points ahead of series opening winner Mark Hall of Grass Valley. After finishing third last month at Marysville, Alan Bradway of Fair Oaks currently Foothill Farms driver Scooter Lambert. Jeff Young of Roseville currently rounds out the top five in the series, just one point behind Lambert. David Robinson Jr. of Sacramento sits in the sixth slot ahead of Chad Riolo, Billy Wallace, Andy Forsberg and Mike Benson. the top ten point runners are all expected Saturday as part of the estimated 40-50 car field which will include competitors from the Marysville opener as well as many Petaluma regulars which are expected to join the series for the first time this year. The pit gate is scheduled open at 3:30 for the April 24 event. The main grandstand will open to the public at 5:00. Time Trials are scheduled to begin at 6:30 with the first heat race kicking off at 7:30 p.m. For ticket prices or further information contact Petaluma Speedway at (707) 778-3100.
