GIBSONTON, FL - Defending late model track champion Donnie Tanner drove away from the field in the 25-lap feature Saturday night at East Bay Raceway. Winning by over half a lap, Tanner missed seeing a great four-car race for second place that saw Bobby Alexander edge out David Schmauss who barely got by Bill Howard for third with Ted Erskine fifth.
In the sprint car 25-lap feature, Kenny Adams took the lead on the white flag lap to grab his sixth feature win of the year. Defending champion Gene Lasker took second ahead of Roland Johnson, Joe Melnick and last week’s winner Sport Allen.
Defending limited late model champion Roger Crouse won his heat race then topped the field in the $500-to-win Kensington Manor Dash For Cash. Jeff Matthews finished second in the wild dash ahead of Danny Bowman and John Bradley.
Bowman came back to win the feature race in one of the wildest five-car finishes of the year. Any one of the five cars coming off turn four on the last lap could have won it. Following Bowman to the finish line after a major mix-up were Matthews, Bradley, David Simpson and Crouse.
Mike Smith won the mini-stock main event ahead of Dorsey Strickland, Rick Partridge, William Hampton and Larry Stepp. The wild and wooly street stock feature was won by ’97 track champion Don Gansner as he outran Donnie Paris by a nose at the finish line. Rounding out the top five were Paul Davis, Danny McCall and Jerry Lape.
