O'Reilly ASCoT Point Leader Wright Awarded Brodix TOC Victory

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (August 6, 2006) -- Current O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series on Tour National point leader Gary Wright picked up his first Knoxville Raceway feature victory since 1998 by winning Sunday night's Eighth Annual Brodix Tournament of Champions 30-lap feature win.

The two-time and defending ASCS National champion from Hooks, TX, led the opening six rounds of Sunday's feature and was awarded the feature win early Monday morning when apparent feature winner Chuck Swenson was disqualified due to the use of illegal heads.

Wright's victory aboard the Wesmar-powered Southwest Express/The Shop/Richwood Construction No. 9 Maxim gave the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour a sweep of the top two positions as Louisiana's Jason Johnson snared the runner-up slot with a lap 28 pass of Josh Higday, who held on for the show position.

Minnesota's Dustin Lindquist charged through the field from 19th to snare fourth, with polesitter Sam Hafertepe, Jr., representing the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region rounding out the top five.

Utilizing a provisional starting position for the "A" Main, Northern Sprint Tour shoe Danny Horner charged from 28th to sixth, with the balance of the top ten including 22nd-starter Curt Michael (URC) , 15th-starter Kevin Welsh (URC), 16th-starter Joe Beaver (Knoxville) and ASCS top-ten shoe Tony Bruce, Jr., from 18th.

A pair of red flags interrupted the action, including Winged Outlaw Warriors point leader Randy Martin's tumble down the backstretch after two laps and Abe Sherwood's turn one flip on the seventh lap. There were no injuries.

The opening four heat races of the night for the 65-car field were topped by ASCS representatives, with Swenson, Wright, Hafertepe and ASCS Sprints on Dirt rep Dustin Daggett victorious. Jake Martens, a Rookie of the Year contender with the ASCS National Tour in 2005, won the fifth heat, with the final three heats won by Knoxville reps Jon Corbin and Nate Mosher along with Alberta Sprint Tour shoe Brandon Harkness.

Lindquist made a late move around Michael to win the First "B" Main, with Brecht wiring the field in the Second "B" Main. Anderson battled past Maier on the sixth circuit en route to winning the Third 15-lap "B" Main.

Twenty different sanctioning bodies throughout the nation and beyond took part in the Eight Annual Brodix Tournament of Champions.
