New Egypt Bigger and Better for 1999
New Egypt, NJ (November 27)-Curious fans and eager racers are lined up at the gates of the New Egypt Speedway each weekend, to get a glimpse of large-scale renovations initiated days after the checker fell on the Central Jersey track's successful first season as a dirt facility.
It's a list of big-time changes for a track that was brand-spanking-new less than a year ago. For 1999, the third-mile clay track has been enlarged to 4/10ths of a mile-that's 30% more racing room. The D-shaped speedway's tight turns are wider, the front straightaway is now 90 feet across, and some of the banking has been flattened. "But it's still a racer's track," says track owner Rick Grosso, Sr. "We're going to see some great, close racing there next season."
Musco of Charlotte, N.C., designers of the speedway's daylight-quality lighting system, has been called upon to add more lights. In addition, seating capacity in both the spectator and pit areas will be doubled for next season; handrails and walkways are being added in the existing grandstands, for easier entry and exit.
Other major improvements underway at New Egypt include a planned expansion and reconfiguration of the pit area; on the fans' side of the fence, the children's playground area will also be expanded.
Billboard space and sponsored nights are available for New Egypt's "bigger and better" 1999 season. Call the track at (609) 758-1900 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for more information.
