Bryan Howland Back in ASCS Patriots Victory Lane at Brewerton

BREWERTON, NY (July 10, 2009)- After having a win last week basically taken away, Bryan Howland was fine admitting to his crew in Victory Lane: "We Got Lucky!"

Howland, the defending Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots Champion from Auburn, NY, scored the win at the tricky Brewerton Speedway for the second straight year on Friday Night in a thrilling 25-lap feature.

The two-time champion found himself in a four-car scramble for much of the A-Main with current Patriot point leader Jared Zimbardi, Bobby Breen and Trevor Lewis. The No. 51 was running third with four laps remaining, the perfect spot to be when Lewis and Breen came together running for the lead, sending both the back and giving Howland clean race track in front of him.

"I was just trying different lines in the feature because we just weren't going anywhere running the same lines as the top guys," noted "Flyin' Bryan" after the event. "We definitely lucked out tonight when Trevor and Bobby got together.

Even after inheriting the lead, the coast was not clear yet for the Filtrec Corporation entry. Zimbardi restarted right behind Howland and was ready to go at the drop of the final green flag. The No. 51 was up to the task though and would drive away.

It was the 11th ASCS Patriot win in the career of the 22-year-old. It also enabled him to take over the point lead in the A-Verdi King of CNY Standings and close back in on the overall point lead. Jared Zimbardi would keep that to a minimum though with another solid run.

Zimbardi would pick up second for the second year in a row at "The D-Shaped Dirt Demon". The Bundle of Warmth No. 35 started fourth but quickly jumped up to second by lap three. On the ninth circuit he showed a wheel under Lewis for the lead and by lap 16 he was the leader at the line.

His time in front would be short-lived though as he slid up the track in turn one on the 17th lap and would quickly slip back to fourth.The majority of the race consisted of the top four dicing it up through lapped traffic and for the lead. Lewis led all but one lap early on but it was clear that any one of the other three could beat him. Breen had shown his stuff early on by moving from 9th to 5th on the first lap, using his extra track knowledge acquired when he won the Four Laps of Fame Scramble Dash.

The moment of the race was clearly on the 22nd lap when Lewis and Breen came together. Bobby had began to put pressure on the No. 21L as the top four worked lapped traffic. After clearing Dave Wickham, Breen dove to the inside of turn one but slid through the slick portion of the track, making contact with Lewis, spinning both of them out. Lewis stalled his car while Breen was able to drive away but both would have to restart at the back for being involved in the caution. Breen would get back to 10th while Lewis would finish 11th.

Dan Kaszubinski recorded his top Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot A-Main finish in third. The local favorite missed the setup but was able to keep his No. 20 in the right direction to record a solid finish.

Chuck Hebing started in seventh, but a 360 spin in the fourth turn of the opening lap would send "Cobra" back to 17th. The all-time winningest Patriot would charge back up and somewhat turn his luck around by posting his first finish in over a month.

Don Adamczyk made his first trip to Brewerton count by rounding out the top-five. The No. 21 just beat local Jason Barney back to the line, as Barney charged up from 16th starting position.

Tommy Wickham rallied from an early spin to be the hard charger, moving up 13 spots for seventh while Josh Weller placed eighth in his first trip to Brewerton. Blake and Bobby Breen completed the top-10.

A total of 32 sprint cars entered the tight pits on a beautiful Friday evening. With improvements made to the facility, and a great track surface for the competitors, it was easy to see why the grandstands were filled.

Among the drivers with bad luck on the night was Bubba Broderick. The No. 5 started in 15th but was up to ninth on the second lap and was working on eighth when a mechanical failure forced him pit side for the remainder of the event.

Shawn Donath was quickest in hot laps but the rest of the night the No. 33 was plagued by a myriad of bad luck. Donath brought the car to the stop on the final lap of his heat, which he had command of. He then spun out in the B-Main and would fail to qualify.

While Tim Devendorf did not qualify his sprint, he did win the mod lite feature also run on the night.
