Zach Chappell Is Number One In Summer 360 Sprint Car Poll
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (AUG. 27, 2001) - Zach Chappell of Talala, Okla., is the top-rated 360-cubic-inch sprint car driver in the nation, according to the National 360 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of manufacturers, media members, promoters and sanctioning officials. Chappell, the current American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) point leader, earned five of the sixteen (16) first- place ballots cast. Zach replaces fellow Okie and ASCS regular Wayne Johnson, who has recently raced more in the 410 c.i. sprint car division, in the seasonal national rankings.
Ranked second in the poll is year 2000 National 360 Sprint Car Poll "Driver of the Year" Kenny Adams of Malabar, Fla. Kenny, the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) point leader on asphalt, captured four first place votes. Rounding out the top five drivers are ASCS regular Larry Neighbors of Oklahoma City, Okla., USCS dirt point leader Terry Gray of Bartlett, Tenn., and perennial Empire Super Sprints (ESS) champion of Eden, N.Y. Neighbors nabbed one blue ribbon vote from the panel, while Gray received two.
Other point leaders in the "top 25" are Randy Martin at Knoxville Raceway in 6th, Chris Coyle of United Racing Club (URC) in 9th, Tim Allison of National Racing Alliance (NRA) in 10th, Roger Crockett of Northern Sprint Tour (NST) in 11th, Chad Layton at Selisgrove Speedway in 13th, Sport Allen at East Bay Raceway in 14th, Andy Forsberg of the California Sprint Car Civil War Series in 17th, and Steve Irwin of Sprints On Dirt (SOD) in 22nd.
