3R Racing Takes Delivery of SRT4s for Speed Touring
Englewood, Colorado - 3R Racing recently took delivery of two Dodge SRT4 bodies to be transformed into SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge Touring cars to debut sometime late this season.
The Colorado based team has been competing in World Challenge for five years and is the defending series Speed GT series champion with driver Tommy Archer. The team currently campaigns three Dodge Viper Competition Coupes for Archer, Phil McClure and team owner Tim Wiens.
"We have had some interest in expanding our team to include touring cars," said Tim Wiens, owner 3R Racing. "Since we are running Vipers the natural progression was to purchase SRT4s and stay with the Dodge brand. We have just received the cars and in the process of engineering and installing the safety cage. The plan right now is to have the cars ready for a late season debut. We have interest from drivers, but have not settled on a lineup yet."
The SRT4 features a 2.4-liter turbocharged, 16-valve double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine with front wheel driver powering through a Quaife automatic torque biasing differential. The racing version of the motor will be a sealed crate engine program from Dodge helping to reduce costs for competitors.
"Dodge offers a very attractive body purchase and engine package," continued Wiens. "The crate motor program is as simple as it gets, basically plug-and-play. The contingency that is available makes it one of the best programs available with $15,000 on the table for each race weekend."
3R Racing would like to thank sponsors c3controls, Sirius Satellite Radio, FirsTier Bank and partners Red Line Oil, Performance Friction brake pads, Ron Davis radiators and Dodge Motorsport.
