Sunoco Super Series Adds Two Events To 2002 Schedule
SSS Will Team With Main Event Racing Series At Both Events

Salem, IN (February 2, 2002) – CRA Sunoco Super Series officials announced today that two events have been added to its 2002-racing schedule. The series will be teaming with the Main Event Racing Series for both events.

Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, Indiana will host the first added event on Sunday afternoon, August 25th. The event will showcase twin 100 lap features for the Sunoco Super Series and the Main Event Racing Series. The event will mark the return of the Sunoco Super Series to Baer Field Speedway after a one-year absence. The series competed at Baer Field Speedway for three years in a row from 1998 through 2000. It will be the first visit for the Main Event Racing Series to Baer Field Speedway.

The second added date will bring the Sunoco Super Series to Columbus Motor Speedway as a part of Main Event XV, one of the most prestigious Outlawed Late Model events in the country. The Main Event XV program will feature twin 150’s at the 1/3-mile track located in Columbus, Ohio. On Saturday night, September 21 the Sunoco Super Series will be headlined in a 150-lap event. This will be the first ever appearance by the Sunoco Super Series at the famed Ohio oval. On Sunday, September 22, Main Event XV will feature a 150-lap battle of the top Outlaw Late Model drivers in the country for a $12,000 first place payoff.

“Teaming the Sunoco Super Series with the Main Event XV will make the event one of the greatest weekend events in short track racing history,” stated R.J. Scott, Managing Partner of the CRA Sunoco Super Series, “fans will have the opportunity to see the best Late Model drivers in the Mid-west competing head to head in two fantastic days of short track racing action! “By scheduling both events with the Main Event Racing Series, racing fans will have the opportunity to come and see great racing from two of the premier Late Model touring series in the Mid- west.”

The Main Event Racing Series currently has thirteen events scheduled in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Legendary driver Tim Ice was the 2001 series champion. Several Sunoco Super Series veteran drivers have driven in Main Event Racing Series events including Scott Hantz, Junior Hanley, and Glenn Gault. Other drivers who have made starts in both series include Scott Baker, a feature winner with the Main Event Racing Series in 2001, ASA veteran Gary St. Amant, Freddy Campbell, Tim Felver, Andy Ponstein, Phil Massuch, John Vallo, Tom Hernly Jr., and Jon Raney.

The Sunoco Super Series 2002 schedule will now consist of 19 events instead of the originally release 18 event schedule. The series lost an event that was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 21 at US 131 Motorsports Park. Track officials were forced to postpone the tracks opening until 2003 because of construction problems.
