Kreke wins UMP Late Model feature at Fredericktown Raceway

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- (May 30, 2003) All it took was just a "quarter-pound more air in our right front tire" to help propel Brent Kreke to his first feature win of the season at the Fredericktown Raceway Friday night.

"We always said that if anybody asked us what made the difference in our win we would tell them it was just the quarter-pound additional air pressure we added to the right front tire," laughed Brent Kreke after his win Friday night.

Kreke had originally planned on racing at Godfrey, Ill., but when rain cancelled the races there they headed for "The Rock."

"He just really likes racing down here," said Brent's father, Al Kreke. "He always seems to do good down here."

There were two big keys to Kreke's victory - first a good pill draw and secondly taking full advantage of the good draw and staying away from the middle of the pack and all the congestion.

Of the 16 UMP Late Models racing in the feature, none we slouches, so the battles in the middle of the pack were intense. Kreke was able to get out front and stay out of problems while the rest battled constantly for position. Kenny Rumble finished in second place while Mike Abney was third, Mike Hammerle was fourth and Brian Collins fifth. They were followed by Rodney Pense, Bryan Stephens, Brian Wolfmeier, Andy Pryor and Brad Long.

It was a triple crown night for Kreke as he also won his heat race and the dash. In the dash Kreke was first, Pryor was second and Ronnie Jarrells was third. Kreke won the first heat with Collins second and Rumble third. Jarrells won the second heat with Abney second and Pense third. Pryor won the third heat with Hammerle second and Ron McQuerry third.

In the RAMS Mini Stock feature, Jathon Cruse of Farmington battled Rick Ruch throughout the entire race before finally prevailing for the win. Ruch finished second with Wes Kintz third, Jason Brewington fourth and Dave "The Wolf" Wofford fifth. They were followed by Phil Hannah, Jon Paul Reando, Nick Payne and Jeff Gibson. Cruse won the heat race with Wofford second and Ruch third. Wofford won the dash with Cruse second and Ruch third.

In the Pure Street class, Theran Pearl of Bismarck was once again a triple crown winner after strolling away with the win in the feature. Rocky Stevens was second with Derek DeSpain third, Barry Pender fourth and Brad Thurston fifth. They were followed by Lenny Terrell, Gary Weekley, Josh DeSpain Russell Mathews and Travis Goodman.

Stevens won the first heat with Weekley second and Derek DeSpain third. Pearl won the second heat with Terrell second and Josh DeSpain third. Pearl won the dash with Stevens second and Derek DeSpain third. In the Modified class, Tommy Worley Sr. of Farmington was also a triple crown winner. In the feature it was Worley picking up the checkered flag with Kevin Gegg second, Jeremy Greenwalt third, Nick Werner fourth and Gary Johnson fifth. They were followed by Scott Carron, Pete Koenig, Joe Giesler, Lynn Edgar and Jim Fisher.

Greenwalt won the first heat with Werner second and Giesler third. Worley won the second heat with Koenig second and Carron third. Worley won the dash with Greenwalt second and Giesler third.

Racing action at the Fredericktown Raceway will continue Sunday, June 1st with the Fredericktown Azalea Racefest featuring a 40-lap Pure Street feature, a RAMS Mini Stock Points Series race, the first ever visit of the Hornets/Wannabees class and an Amateur ATV group. Gates will open at 3 p.m. Sunday with racing around 4:45.
