Pauch Best In New Egypt Clash Of The Titans

New Egypt, NJ (April 29) -- It was a battle of the big guns at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night with Frenchtown, NJ’s Billy Pauch topping Kenny Brightbill on Shammy Shine Night to score his second Modified win of the season.

“Kenny got out there first and I knew it was gonna be a tough one tonight,” Pauch told the crowd.

Tom Carberry capitalized on his pole starting position, leading the way as Brightbill and Pauch surged to the front. Brightbill got to the point first with Pauch sizzling on his heels. Carberry’s hopes were brought to an end when he slammed the backstretch wall and flipped on lap 11; he was not injured. The top two lined up side-by-side on the restart, and Pauch leaped to the fore. Brightbill gave Pauch his best shot but it came up short, with Pauch cruising in for his 16th career win at New Egypt. Brightbill and Gary Butler followed, with Rocco Infante turning in a super run in his Rookie Modified season for fourth, and last week’s winner Keith Hoffman in fifth.

Upper Black Eddy, PA’s Scott Singley scored a very emotional career-first win in the 20-lap Sportsman main. Larry Lippincott led from the green flag through to lap 15 when an altercation with Mike Lyons opened the door for Singley. This action put Singley in front and he held off all challengers for the win. At the line behind Singley were Rich Scagliotta, Mickey Kessler, Larry Archer and Ron Jon Koczon.

Starting 14th on the grid, Flemington, NJ’s Billy Bauer took charge with four laps remaining to capture his third win of the season in the 15-lap Street Stock feature. “The track was beautiful. They did a great job with it considering the weather we’ve been having,” Bauer commented. Bauer was followed by Rick Giannino, Al Cheney III, Pat Conaway and Evan Berardi.

Mike Reutter Jr. of Howell, NJ, led from green to checker for his second straight win in the Mid-State Communications Rookie event. Doug Liedl, Kyle Morrison, Keith Fleming and Dom Buffalino Jr. completed the top five.

The 50/50 was worth $950 to one lucky winner, and several fans left with valuable prizes courtesy of Shammy Shine Car Washes.

The big show continues this Saturday, May 6, with a four-division card competing on Mid-State Race Page Night. Gates open at 3 p.m., and the first green flag drops at 6. Adult admission is $12, children 7-12 are $4, and kids 6 and under are free. For more info, call the speedway at (609) 758-1900.
