South Alabama Motor Speedway SARA race report

TAMPA, FLORIDA. - The SARA points race is tightening up as a consistent Bobby Beauchemin of Davie, Fla., recorded his eighth top-five finish this season by winning the Executive Racing School Late Model 125 on Aug. 19 at South Alabama Motor Speedway in Opp, Ala.

"The guys did a great job with the car tonight - comfortable, just comfortable is the best was to describe it," said Beauchemin. "We have a great run going now and we hope it continues."

It was also Beauchemin's third victory in 2001 moving him within 47 points of SARA Late Model point leader Jason Boyd of Orlando, Fla., who has 1644 points. Boyd would finish third.

The winning Beauchemin, driving the Don Robinson Concrete Chevrolet also ran a strong race in August 2000 at SAS only to be denied victory in the waning laps.

"I thought we were a winner in last year's August event, but it wasn't to be," continued Beauchemin. "Boyd has a little company now. If the car stays this way it's going to be a real dogfight at USA in Lakeland."

The winner rocketed to the point in the opening lap from the outside pole and was never headed. Boyd started on the pole after approaching rain showers cancelled qualifying. The 20-car field then started by points with Boyd in his Left Hand Man Chevrolet up front.

"Bobby (Beauchemin) had the car tonight and he was flying," said Boyd. "We'll be at Lakeland ready to go. This was just another day."

Wayne Morris of Mulberry, Fla., driving his new Chevrolet ride was able to pass Boyd for the second spot in lap-90, but was unable to catch the winning Beauchemin. Morris is fourth in points with 1504 marks.

"I just didn't have enough to catch Bobby (Beauchemin), but our car was running great," said Morris.. "When we passed Boyd, I gave the car all it had trying to catch Beauchemin, but it wasn't enough."

Tony Amico of Clearwater, Fla. checked in fourth after a sparkling run, driving the Executive Racing School Chevrolet.

The next SARA Late Model points race will be the Executive Racing School 100 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla. on Sept. 1 on the three-quarter mile high-banked oval.
