ASA Expands West Coast Presence with ASA Lucas Oil Pro-4 Series

PENDLETON, Ind. (April 22, 2004) - The American Speed Association furthered their presence on the West Coast with today's announcement of an affiliation between the sanctioning body and the Lucas Oil Pro-4 Series.

"The Pro-4 cars are the best kept secret on the West Coast in stock car racing," claimed Bob Coply, series director of the ASA Lucas Oil Pro-4 Series. "With our involvement with ASA, it is definitely going to bring us to the forefront. That is something we have needed for quite some time. I think we have a great show to provide to ASA and it looks like a very exciting time ahead."

The ASA Lucas Oil Pro-4 Series will participate in a five race series starting May 1 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. From there, the cars head to Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., on July 17, Meridian (Idaho) Speedway on September 11 and Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif., on October 9. The season-finale takes place November 27 at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Calif.

"This is the second regional touring series that ASA now has on the West Coast," said Dennis Huth, ASA national director Member Track Program. "The ASA Lucas Oil Pro-4 Series puts on some close, exciting racing at an extremely competitive price point, the foundation of the American Speed Association. An added bonus is our ability to work with a company such as Lucas Oil and the support that they give to the series and motorsports overall."

When asked the competitors' reaction, Coply stated that the drivers "are thrilled about it. They think being part of ASA is one of the most exciting parts of the whole package. Our involvement with ASA is going to add so much more recognition to our program. That's the thing we really like about this association and hopefully it will help us move on up the ladder."

The ASA Lucas Oil Pro-4 Series has been racing for more than a decade. For those unfamiliar with the vehicles, they are a bit smaller in stature than a typical Late Model race car and average around 2100 pounds. The cars run a four-cylinder engine which puts out around 260 horsepower and can run in excess of 100-mph.

"The horsepower-to-weight ration is just awesome," Coply explained. "The cars are quick and they are small enough to where you can have multi-groove racing. The shows are pretty exciting."

The American Speed Association is based in Pendleton, Ind., and has offered racing programs since 1968, including the ASA National Tour, ASA Late Model Series, several regional series, and the ASA Member Track programs. For additional information, visit asaracing.com.
