Madison, IL - Results Friday afternoon (October 16) from preliminraies and starting lineup for the October 17 running of the "Shop 'N Save 100" USAC Silver Crown Championship Race at Gateway International Raceway, with driver, hometown, qualifying time and speed:

Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. captured the pole starting position for Saturday's "Shop 'N Save 100" USAC Silver Crown Championship race at Gateway International Raceway, posting a speed of 141.518 mph. during Friday's qualifying. Steele's speed was just shy of te ultimate Silver Crown record of 141.750 mph. established by Chuck Leary last year.

Gary Hieber of Langhorne, Pa. won a 10-mile "qualifying race" which concluded the qualification procedure to fill the 30-car starting field.

Silver Crown Series championship contenders Ryan Newman (3rd), Jason Leffler (1st) and Brian Tyler (2nd) qualified second, third and 10th respectively for the series' final race.
